Job Description:
Goucher College invites applications for a Director of Library Preservation to provide leadership in the preservation of library and archival materials in all formats. This is a newly created position intended to develop a comprehensive preservation program including management of the College's electronic records, digital surrogates, and digital library initiatives. The preservation position is in the Special Collections & Archives Department. This 32-hour per week position is funded by the Joseph Ruzicka & Marie Ruzicka Feldmann Endowment, and offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Key responsibilities include managing the physical care, protection, and handling of the college's general and special collections; conducting preventive actions to preserve library and archival materials including digitization; maintaining library-wide procedures for the proper storage and handling of collections; and supervising commercial binding and reformatting activities. Developing faculty teaching partnerships and undergraduate learning opportunities, as well as promoting an institutional repository are important initiatives of this position.
Requirements:
Requirements: ALA-accredited Master's degree in library/information science with knowledge and experience in print and non-print preservation, basic conservation treatments, and institutional repositories. Minimum of three years experience working in a library, special collections, or archival environment. Knowledge of preservation theory, standards, ethics, and current trends. Experience managing digitization projects, creating metadata, and utilizing digital asset management systems.
